  What Is a Domain Name?

A domain name is your business' Internet name - its unique identity on the Internet. It provides your business with a way to communicate with your customers and suppliers using a name that is personalised to you. A domain name - often the name of your business or a brand/product name - is the first step to building an Internet identity.

  Xtra as your .nz Registrar

Xtra has been recognised by the Domain Name Commissioner as a .nz domain name Registrar. From 27 February 2003 we can offer you the convenience of having a single point of contact for your entire .nz domain needs. We will also be able to give you the convenience of having your entire .nz domain name charges included together on a single bill.
Xtra will be listed as your .nz Registrar, and we will manage your domain name registration, domain name hosting, and provide you with our dedicated support and Xtra's 24 hour, seven-day-a-week expert Help Desk. A new role of Domain Name Commissioner has been established by the industry to provide a day-to-day oversight of the .nz domain name registration and management system. For further information on this role and the office of the Domain Name Commissioner, please click here.

  Domain Name Benefits

   Having a domain name makes it easier for people to find your business on the Internet and gives you a more professional image.

   It means you can have personalised email eg: joebloggs@mycompany.co.nz rather than mycompany@xtra.co.nz which customers may find easier to remember.

   When you register a domain name it belongs exclusively to you, and prevents other companies from using it (assuming you have the right to the name)

   Having a single email address means you can change your location without losing contact with your customers

   With a domain name you can have several different email addresses; eg joebloggs@mycompany.co.nz can also receive emails for info@mycompany.co.nz or sales@mycompany.co.nz

   You can also have an optional wildcard, which enables misspelled addresses to still be delivered to your mailbox, eg: joooblogss@mycompany.co.nz will still get to the right place
